ABOUT
The Tollgate Islands Race is one of the major offshore challenges of the Sydney Blue Water Pointscore, taking the fleet 260 nautical miles south from Sydney Harbour to the Tollgate Islands off Batemans Bay before returning north to the finish at Watsons Bay.
Starting in the late afternoon, the fleet races through the night and into the following day, making this a significant test of endurance, navigation, crew work, and boat speed. The long coastal passage exposes the fleet to changing wind conditions, ocean swell and tactical decisions around the NSW coastline, with crews required to manage both the boat and the changing conditions over an extended period.
In 2025, Moneypenny delivered a standout performance, taking 1st place in both IRC and PHS, ahead of the other leading Maxis. The result followed its IRC victory in the Flinders Islet Race, establishing Moneypenny as a serious contender early in the Blue Water Pointscore campaign.
